Living in Mt. Juliet, TN: Easy Access to Nashville Without Living in the City

One of the things I like most about living in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee is that you don’t have to choose between suburban life and everything Nashville has to offer.

You can live in Mt. Juliet, have more of that suburban day-to-day lifestyle, and still head into Nashville for a Titans game, Predators game, concert, dinner, shopping, or just a family day downtown.

And when you’re not trying to make the drive during rush hour, getting into Nashville can be surprisingly convenient.

How Far Is Mt. Juliet From Nashville?

Mt. Juliet sits east of Nashville with I-40 providing a direct route into the city. Depending on where you live in Mt. Juliet and where you’re headed in Nashville, the drive can often be very manageable outside of peak traffic periods.

That’s an important distinction.

If you’re commuting into Nashville during morning rush hour and coming home at 5:00 PM, that’s a very different experience from heading downtown on a Saturday morning for brunch or driving in for a Sunday afternoon Titans game.

Traffic is part of living in the Nashville metro area, so I would never tell someone that the drive is always quick. But when you have some flexibility about when you head into town, Nashville can feel much closer than many relocating buyers initially expect.

Living in Mt. Juliet Gives You Access to Both

This is one of the reasons I think Mt. Juliet works so well for people who want to be close to Nashville without necessarily wanting to live in Nashville.

Day to day, Mt. Juliet has plenty of its own restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, parks, coffee shops, and other conveniences.

But Nashville dramatically expands your options.

Want to catch a Tennessee Titans game? Head downtown.

Predators game or concert at Bridgestone Arena? You can make a night of it.

Want to explore restaurants in Germantown, 12 South, East Nashville, The Gulch, or downtown? They’re close enough that you don’t need to make an entire weekend out of it.

And that extends beyond sports and restaurants to concerts, museums, shopping, festivals and many of the other things that come with living near a growing city like Nashville.

What Does a Family Day in Nashville Look Like From Mt. Juliet?

Sometimes it’s easier to show you rather than tell you.

My family and I actually filmed one of our trips from Mt. Juliet into Nashville for a family day. It gives you a much better idea of what it’s like to live outside the city but still be able to take advantage of Nashville when you want to.

Living in Mt. Juliet but visiting Nashville

That’s one of the things relocation buyers sometimes miss when they’re researching communities online.

You aren’t only choosing what’s located within the Mt. Juliet city limits.

You’re choosing a home base that gives you access to the entire Nashville area.

Is Mt. Juliet a Good Location If You Want Access to Nashville?

Ultimately, this comes down to what you want your normal week to look like.

If your job requires driving into downtown Nashville every weekday during rush hour, commute time should absolutely be part of your home-buying decision.

But if you’re primarily interested in being close enough to Nashville for restaurants, sports, concerts, shopping, the airport and weekend activities, Mt. Juliet’s location can give you a nice balance between the two.

That’s also why location within Mt. Juliet matters. Your access to I-40, which side of town you live on, and where you regularly need to travel can all affect your experience.
