Ready to start your home search in Middle Tennessee?
If you’re thinking about moving to Middle TN, one of the first things you’re probably realizing is this: there are a lot of good options. The Nashville area has grown fast, and with that growth has come a wide variety of neighborhoods, suburbs, and communities — all with a very different feel. Some people want to be close to downtown Nashville and the action, while others are looking for top school zones, larger lots, new construction, or a little more breathing room.
The good news is there really is something for almost everyone. The bad news? If you are relocating and don’t know the area well, it can be tough to know where to even start. So if you’re moving to Nashville or anywhere in Middle Tennessee, here are 5 great areas to consider before you buy a home.
1. Wedgewood-Houston
If you want trendy, creative, and close to the action, Wedgewood-Houston should absolutely be on your radar. This area has become one of the coolest spots in Nashville for young professionals, couples, and anyone who wants that “in the mix” feel without necessarily being right in the middle of Broadway chaos.
There’s a lot of character here, a growing food and art scene, and a vibe that feels modern without trying too hard. If you’re young, in love, and want chill city energy with easy access to downtown Nashville, Wedgewood-Houston might be a great fit.
2. Franklin / Brentwood
If your budget can handle it, Franklin and Brentwood are two of the most popular places for families moving to Middle TN — and for good reason. These areas are known for beautiful homes, strong resale value, and some of the most sought-after school zones in the state thanks to Williamson County Schools.
You also get a polished suburban feel with plenty of shopping, restaurants, parks, and community amenities. Franklin has more of that historic small-town charm, while Brentwood feels a little more polished and tucked away. Either way, if schools and family lifestyle are high on your list, these two areas deserve a hard look.
3. Donelson
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — Donelson feels a little like East Nashville for people who are ready to not be in East Nashville anymore. You still get personality, convenience, and access to cool local spots, but with a little more room to breathe.
One of the big draws here is the larger lots, more established homes, and less traffic compared to living closer to the city core. You’re also super convenient to BNA and can get into downtown Nashville pretty easily when you need to. It’s not exactly downtown, and it’s not fully suburban either — which honestly is what makes it such a sweet spot for a lot of buyers.
4. Mt. Juliet
Mt. Juliet continues to be one of the hottest areas for people moving to Middle Tennessee, especially buyers looking for strong public schools, new construction, and easy access to both Nashville and BNA Airport.
Located in Wilson County, Mt. Juliet has seen a major boom over the last several years, and a lot of that has been fueled by people wanting more house for their money without feeling too far removed from the city. There are a ton of newer communities, great shopping and dining, and it’s one of the easier commuter suburbs if you need to be in Nashville regularly. If you’re moving to Middle TN and want that blend of convenience, growth, and school zones, Mt. Juliet is a strong option.
5. Hendersonville
Hendersonville is one of the more established suburbs in Middle TN, and it has a lot going for it. For starters, if lake life sounds appealing, this area gives you great access to Old Hickory Lake and a lifestyle that feels a little more relaxed.
It’s about 35 minutes to Nashville depending on traffic, so it’s not the closest suburb on this list, but for many people the tradeoff is worth it. Hendersonville has a strong community feel, plenty of amenities, and a lot of mature neighborhoods that don’t feel as “cookie cutter” as some newer developments. If you like the idea of being near the water while still staying connected to the Nashville area, this could be a great fit.
Final Thoughts
If you’re moving to Middle TN, the biggest mistake you can make is assuming every Nashville suburb feels the same — because they definitely do not. Some areas are better for young professionals, some are ideal for families, and some are just a better fit depending on your commute, budget, and lifestyle goals.
That’s why it’s so important to understand not just the homes, but the areas themselves. If you’re relocating to Nashville, Mt. Juliet, or anywhere in Middle Tennessee and want help narrowing down where you should focus your search, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to help you figure out which area fits you best — and make your move a whole lot less stressful.
